The history behind your hand woven rug, and what many don't know about the art of rug weaving.
Being born and raised in the village of Arzun Fud, in the province of Hamadan, Iran, my family and I were exposed to the ancient art and lifestyle of rug weaving. The very hand woven rugs you have in your homes and condos have a long story and history behind them. Depending on the size of the rug, most take anywhere from 6 months to years to weave.
What is ever more interesting is that each provide, region, and country have their own style of weaving patterns. For example, the rug you see below is a Serapi design, originating from the Serab village of Northwest Iran (Persia), about 80 miles east of Tabriz. You will only see this design and pattern woven in that village, and nowhere else in the entire world.
And this rug below, for example, is a traditional design woven in the city of Tabriz, Iran. Tabriz is located in the East Azerbaijan province of the Northwest of Iran. The rug pattern above and this traditional Tabriz pattern below do have a few similarities, but are massively different in pattern, design, and texture and yet the two areas are only 80 miles apart from each other.
